Birth Trauma for Providers (1 CE)
Course Description:

In this webinar, Catharine McDonald, MS, LPC, will look at different types of traumas and how they can be influenced by healthcare providers and situational complications. Lastly she will explore how to be an empowered advocate for the care you deserve whether it’s anticipating a loss or navigating healthcare after a loss.


Learning Objectives:

  1. Define Birth Trauma: Understand the various forms of birth trauma, including physical, emotional, and psychological aspects, and how they impact birthing individuals. 
  2. Recognize Signs and Symptoms: Identify common indicators of birth trauma in patients, including behavioral and emotional responses during and after childbirth. 
  3. Implement Supportive Practices: Learn strategies to provide compassionate and trauma-informed care to individuals who have experienced birth trauma. 
  4. Enhance Communication Skills: Develop effective communication techniques to discuss traumatic birth experiences sensitively and supportively with patients.

Presenter Bio:

Catharine McDonald is a National Certified Counselor, CT Licensed Professional Counselor, and Certified Family Life Educator. She owns Growing Well Counseling in Glastonbury, CT where she specializes exclusively in integrative perinatal wellness, fertility and loss, birth trauma, and maternal work-life balance. A founding member of the Postpartum Support International-Connecticut Chapter, she has served on the board of directors and now volunteers with the professional development committee. In addition to perinatal psychotherapy, Catharine also offers clinical consultation in perinatal wellness and enjoys teaching about perinatal mental health, pregnancy and infant loss, sleep education for growing families, and birth-trauma.
