Men, Mental Health, and Perinatal Loss (1 CE)
Course Description:

In this webinar training, Elyse Springer, MA-CLP, LMFT, PMH-C presents an overview of differentiated Paternal Perinatal Mental Health Disorders (PPMHD) and their intersection with perinatal loss. Hormonal research, clinical interventions, and case examples are discussed.


Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the Unique Grief Experiences of Men: Recognize how societal expectations and cultural norms influence men's grieving processes after perinatal loss.
  2. Identify Barriers to Emotional Expression: Explore the challenges men face in expressing grief and seeking support, including stigma and lack of tailored resources.
  3. Implement Supportive Strategies for Men: Learn approaches to provide compassionate and effective support that acknowledges and respects men's experiences of loss.
  4. Promote Inclusive Care Practices: Develop strategies to create inclusive environments that validate and support all grieving parents, regardless of gender.

Presenter Bios:

Elyse Springer, MA-CLP, LMFT, PMH-C is a licensed marriage and family therapist with a focus on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, anxiety, death and loss, relationship conflicts, substance abuse, infectious disease, and sexuality. She is currently a board member for Postpartum Support International’s California chapter and serves as the Policy and Advocacy Chair. She is an emeritus Governing Council member for Maternal Mental Health Now, served as a Board Member of national maternal mental health policy and advocacy group 2020 Mom Project from 2014-2019. She is also training faculty and Emeritus Board Member for national perinatal loss organization Return to Zero: Hope and training faculty for Love, Dad.
